Abstract
In the present study, the temperature of exhaust gases of Tehran’s BRTs are studied to investigate the possibility and feasibility of installing diesel particulate filters. Two identical systems but working in two different routes were equipped with active regeneration filters. Engine rotational speed, pressure and the temperature of exhaust gases were experimentally investigated during working period. Detailed study on the experiments revealed that exhaust gases of system operating in South-North line had higher temperature in comparison with that of being used in East-West route. Since Temperature distribution of exhaust gases were different, installed filters exhibited two different behaviors. Passive regeneration and Active regeneration were found to play the most prominent roles in burning particulate matters in the North-South and East-West BRTs respectively. Due to the fact that both regeneration types were available for North-South System averaged back pressure and maximum pressure loss of this system were of smaller orders. Considering the operation time of more than 2000 hours, without any cleaning, two systems had reasonably acceptable performance. In order to improve DPFs’ operation status, the maintenance and boost the performance of engine are recommended.

Keywords: particulate matter, diesel particulate filter, temperature analysis, active regeneration, passive regeneration
